How to use technology for a safe hike

October is an amazing time of year to enjoy hiking in Vermont. The colors and views are fantastic but rescue teams say it's also the most dangerous time of year to hit the trails.

Shorter days and cooler temperatures at higher elevations catch some hikers by surprise. In the last three years, there have been 22 rescues on Camel's Hump alone. Each triggers a massive response. Of course, nobody wants to need help, so what can you do to stay safe on the trail?

Neil Van Dyke is the head of Stowe Mountain Rescue and coordinates rescues for the Vermont Public Safety Department. He shared some tech tools you can use the next time you head out. Watch the video to see.
