BURLINGTON, Vt. -

Vermont men's head John Becker has announced that seniors Dre Wills and Kurt Steidl and junior Trae Bell-Haynes will serve as team captains for the much anticipated 2016-17 season.

Wills is a two-time America East All-Defensive Team selection and last season also made the All-Conference Second Team.  The 6'1" guard had three triple-doubles last season and was third on the team in rebounding, pulling down just under five boards a game.

Steidl will serve as captain for the second straight season.  Last year Kurt was a Third Team All-Conference pick.  He started all 36 games as a junior and averaged 11 points and five rebounds a game. Steidl also ranked in the top ten in America East in three pointers made, free throw percentage, and defensive rebounds.

Trae Bell-Haynes was an America East All-Tournament team selection and a Third Team All-Conference pick as a sophomore last season.  He recorded double figures in 21 games, including ten times in conference play.  He dished five or more assists in nine games and averaged 17 points per game in Vermont's run to the College Basketball Invitational semifinals.

The Cats tip off the new season with an exhibition game versus the University of Quebec at Montreal a week from Saturday at Patrick Gym.  The regular season opener is Saturday, November 12th at Quinnipiac.
