Vermont had four players record double figures in Saturday night's 94-65 win over crosstown Division II foe Saint Michael's College at Patrick Gym. Ernie Duncan scored a game-high 21 points on 6-of-11 shooting and sank five shots from long range.
Duncan added four assists and made 4-of-5 trips to the line in his 21-point outing. Anthony Lamb had a productive night with 18 points and nearly recorded a double-double as the freshman grabbed a team-high eight rebounds off the glass. Payton Henson and Drew Urquhartcontributed 10 points apiece.
Saint Michael's was led by a 13-point performance by Zaire Williams. The senior was a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc and made four attempts at the charity stripe. Eli DiGrande added 12 points and Colin Richey scored 11 points for the Purple Knights.
Vermont will get the regular season underway on Saturday (Nov. 12) at Quinnipiac. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m..
The Purple Knights open their season next weekend at Saint Thomas Aquinas (N.Y.) College's Spartan Invitational, beginning by taking on the host on Friday at 5 p.m.
Freshman Hanna Crymble posted a double-double and the Vermont women's basketball team trailed for just 12 seconds en route to a 71-55 victory over Saint Michael's on Saturday afternoon in exhibition action at Patrick Gymnasium.
Crymble led all scorers with 24 points and was one of three Catamounts to reach double figures in that category. Both Sydney Smith and Hayley Robertson added 10 points each.
Leah Spencer finished with a double-double for Saint Michael's, chipping in 23 points and 11 boards for the Purple Knights.
Vermont opens the regular season in just under a week, hosting Bryant University on Friday, Nov. 11 for a 7 p.m. tilt at Patrick Gymnasium.
The Purple Knights open their season next weekend at the Rollins (Fla.) College Tip-Off Classic, beginning by facing the hosts on Friday at 2 p.m.
