Hartford scored 24 straight points in the first half and held on for a 24-14 victory over St. Johnsbury in the Division 1 state championship game. It's the first title for the top seed Hurricanes since 2012.
"It feels great. It's very important," Hartford running back, Kody Rhodes said. "I think what set us apart is we came together as a family and played as a team, not individuals."
Hartford scored it's first touchdown with 5 minutes left in the first quarter on a Rhodes short touchdown run. Hunter Perkins added a touchdown run and Gavin Farnsworth found Tyler Hamilton in in the endzone before the half.
"We were prepared for them," Farnsworth said. "We weren't really that worried. They were talking in the media saying they can score on our defense and stop our offense and we weren't too worried about it. We used it as fuel for our fire."
