Nieckula returns for 2017 season

Posted: Updated:

Manager Aaron Nieckula, pitching coach Carlos Chavez and hitting coach Lloyd Turner will all be returning as the Vermont Lake Monsters Field Staff for the 2017 New York-Penn League season, the Oakland Athletics announced today with the release of their full Player Development assignments.

The Monsters had a 28-48 record last season.  That was second worst in the NY-Penn league and was the worst in the league's Stedler Division.

Nieckula and Chavez both return to Vermont for their third straight season with the Lake Monsters. 2017 will also be his 12th season as a manager in the Athletics Minor League System for Nieckula, who also begins his third year as Oakland's Minor League Field Coordinator.

Turner is back with the Lake Monsters for the second straight year and his third with Vermont overall (was also hitting coach back in 2013). The upcoming season will be both Chavez and Turner's fifth years as coaches in the Oakland organization.

In addition, Toshi Nagahara also returns as Vermont's Athletic Trainer for the fifth straight season and J.D. Howell joins the Lake Monsters as Strength and Conditioning Coach after holding the same position previously with the Beloit Snappers.
