Goodbye Gina: Celebrating 7 years at WCAX

Posted: Updated:
BURLINGTON, Vt. -

Our television screens became a bit brighter seven years ago. That's when reporter Gina Bullard arrived from the big city: New York.

She left the corporate world of fashion and joined the reporting team here. It didn't take long for Gina to hit her stride in the Green Mountains.

Gina got out, she told the stories of dreamers, hardworking Vermonters who were rolling up their sleeves and making things. Her Made in Vermont series showcased hundreds of small companies and the people behind the products.

Her beat was business. She was one of the few reporters who managed to convince Miami businessman Ariel Quiros to talk to her; little did Gina know at the time Quiros would be accused later of a massive fraud scheme in the Northeast Kingdom.

Gina could convince people to share their stories; like when she walked into a homeless encampment in Burlington. An award-winning story that brought attention to a chronic problem in our backyard.

She also won awards for her feature reporting with Burlington's dance walker; stories of inspiration, hope, and smiles.

Heck, she even had her smiling face burned into a piece of toast. There were the lighter moments in sometimes difficult days in the TV business.

Behind the scenes, she did her best to keep all of us in style. Gina was always ahead of the latest trend or talk of the town.

You might not know Gina worked to make Vermont a better place for young women; she volunteered each week as a mentor to countless kids who needed a friend.

We are saying so long to our friend; Gina's leaving Vermont for middle America. She starts a new TV job in Kansas City soon. A big city with big spaces that's calling. We say thanks and a job well done, Gina. The Green Mountains will miss you and so will we.
