Patagonia donates 100 percent of Black Friday sales

Posted: Updated:

Outdoor outfitter Patagonia announced that they would donate 100 percent of their sales on Black Friday to support environmental grassroots organizations focused on protecting the planet.

1% For The Planet, based in Burlington is one of them. 1% connects businesses that want to give one percent of their profits, to nonprofit groups working to improve the environment. Since 2002, the network says it has generated more than $150 million to fuel the work of our incredible nonprofit partners around the world. And they say on Giving Tuesday, the message is even more important.

"And that was a large part of Patagonia's effort on Black Friday was really heightening the awareness and commitment to the roll of the private sector in driving impact for the environment. And we are really committed to that every day and work with our member companies all over the world to deliver on that," said Kate Williams, 1% For The Planet CEO.

Williams says governments alone can only do so much to improve the environment and there is a really important role for the private sector to play, and Giving Tuesday is the perfect chance for companies and individuals to do just that.
