NEWPORT, Vt. -

A peaceful ending to an all-day standoff in Newport.

Early Wednesday morning, police say Daniel Kelley, 41, surrendered at the All Seasons Motel.

Police responded at about noon Tuesday after Kelley reportedly pointed a gun at three people at the hotel where he lives. A long standoff began and other guests were evacuated.

"Actually the public's been really great about the whole incident. We didn't have any issues with any of the other residents of the motel. We evacuated them here to the municipal building," Newport Police Chief Seth DiSanto said.

Pleasant Street was finally reopened Wednesday morning and residents were allowed to return.

Kelley faces charges of aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and committing a felony with a firearm.
