Many people have a Christmas checklist, including decking the halls, and now a Middlebury store can help you deck your wardrobe with Made in Vermont holiday outfits.
At one shop in Middlebury, costumes aren't just for Halloween anymore. "I think people think it's kind of funky, pretty fun, a little bit eccentric," said Hannah Hurlburt, owner of the Wonderland Boutique. Hurlburt transforms her business into a holiday workshop where these two elves get to work. "We inspire transformation."
Transforming her own clothing line under The Good Witch brand -- all hand made, original outfits and sold in the Green Mountain State. "We have elves, reindeer, Santa Claus, Mrs. Santa Claus, even ugly Christmas sweaters," Hurlburt said.
Hurlburt and her sidekick, Rachel, crank out dozens of orders every year for Christmas. They need about two weeks to get the material, piece the costume together and then for online purchases -- ship them out. "A lot of velvet -- a lot of fur trim," she said.
Right up my own alley. It's time for her to put her expertise to the test. "I think this one would be perfect for you -- let's do it," she said. From a simple Santa hat to a full suit, ensembles cost anywhere from $20 to $100. It's the magic of the season and the magic of dress-up that inspires her. Holiday cheer in a costume. "I feel that feeling is universal, and it's a great feeling. It can inspire people and bring them together," she said.
Bring them together through Made in Vermont garb fit for Saint Nick.
