BURLINGTON, Vt. -

The mild winter could mean more opportunities for deer hunters.

The Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department is recommending to its board an increase in muzzleloader season antlerless deer permits. Fish and Wildlife says the statewide deer population should be about 157,000 prior to the start of the coming deer seasons. The December muzzleloader season would have just under 25,000 antlerless permits distributed in 18 of Vermont's 21 Wildlife management areas.
