EAST MONTPELIER, Vt. -

It started with a new bag design, and it resulted in becoming a whole new brand. A Vermont Coffee Company is looking to brew up new business under a new name.

For nearly 20 years The Capital Grounds Café has been serving customers their daily Joe.

"It's a great thing to have someone try a cup of coffee and to get feedback that that was one of the best cups of coffee they've ever had," said Bob Watson, 802 Coffee's owner.

But now this fresh brew has a fresh new name -- 802 Coffee

"We wanted to let people know a little bit more about who we are.  We didn't want to keep it a secret anymore," Watson said.

What wasn't a secret was the success of Bernie's Beans, which Capital Grounds Café released in 2015. "It helped to fuel the thought that we needed to re-brand. We saw the route to go," Watson said.

That route starts in this roastery a few minutes away from the café in East Montpelier where they roast close to 1,000 pounds of beans a week.

"I'm really proud of the coffee quality that we have. That we're able to maintain a system where we are able to produce more and more, but we're able to keep the coffee fresh and still pay attention to the quality of roast that goes out," said Chris Pyatak, 802's Production Manager.

"These guys know they're product and I'm thankful that I have a great crew," Watson said.

As for the crew back at the café.  "It's very common on a busy day, or especially on the weekends, that we have totally empty shelves," said Tonya Rackers, Capital Grounds' Manager.

they're filtering consumer concerns. "Customers want to know if they're getting the same product that they've loved for years. We tell them it's exactly what they've been getting for years, it just has a shiny new package to go with it," Rackers said.

Packages are available online and in several stores throughout the state, but it may not be long until it can be found in stories throughout the country. "We know we have great coffee. We need to reach out to the market and let them know that we have great coffee available," Watson said. "If they didn't know us, they will know us now."

A long time coffee company perking up its identity.
