Arrest in Double Murder

Plattsburgh, New York - January 12, 2006

An arrest in a double murder case in northern New York. Late Thursday night, State Police announced they had one man in custody for the stabbing deaths of David and Lorrie Donivan.

The couple were killed in their Schuyler Falls home and business on December 20th. Police had revealed little about the investigation since then. But Thursday night they made an arrest. Ed Dashnaw, 37, of Plattsburgh, was charged with two counts of second degree murder. Police say Dashnaw had been a suspect since early in the investigation.

"We also have evidence that Edward Dashnaw was seen in and around The House of Pine from December 20th to December 28th 2005. Edward Dashnaw has been under state police surveillance and has also been under constant state police surveillance for the last several days," said N.Y. State Police Capt. Robert LaFountain.

Police believe robbery may have been the motive. Jewelry and other valuables were taken from the Donivan's home and furniture store. And police say Dashnaw used the Donivan's ATM card to get money out of their bank account.

Police searched Dashnaw's Plattsburgh home on Wednesday, removing several items that turned out to be evidence of the crime. Police say Dashnaw has a prior criminal record and they say they have DNA evidence from the crime scene that matches Dashnaw.
