Middlebury, Vermont - January 29, 2007
Former employees of Specialty Filaments in Middlebury are voting Monday on a new contract with a potential buyer.
The contract is part of a sales agreement to buy the bankrupt company, but a union vote in either direction would not kill or finalize the deal. The union represents 134 former employees.
The potential buyer is an unidentified out-of-state company that has expressed interested in rehiring all the workers. The Addison County economic development office says the sale could be accepted or rejected in a matter of days.
Specialty Filaments abruptly closed its doors three weeks ago, putting 175 people out of work.
