No Pain, All Gain Hiking (Lone Tree Hill)

Bill Osgood likes nothing better than a nice hike on an early fall day, ....and he is known around Wake Robin as being the instigator, ...the one to get as many people outdoors as he can.

"Oh I like to get people out hiking, that's my aim in life. We go hiking all over this part of Vermont. We have a nature committee at Wake Robin, we just love to get out and see some of these wonderful things, the flowers, the trees, birds, everything. Marvelous!"

The trails at Shelburne Farms suit the seniors well. You could wander around all day, or there is a short, quarter mile trail up to the top of Lone Tree Hill, which leads to some spectacular views.

Claire Kowalski has been walking as part of her recovery from surgery.

"Well, I've been working up a little more, and a little more because like a lot of people my age I've been through surgery, I now have 3/5ths of my lungs left, but it works out fine. I just go at my own pace. There's always excitement going up a hill like this, what are you going to see when your at the top. What's over there?"

They all have their reasons for wanting to be outdoors. Gordon Lowe has always been preferred being outdoors.

"I enjoy being out in the woods because my life was mostly in the woods, hunting and fishing, and it's more interesting to be outdoors."

It's a little piece of Paradise, on top of Lone Tree Hill with spectacular views out across Shelburne Farms, Lake Champlain and the Adirondacks.
