BURLINGTON, Vt. - Junior Amy Rosenkrantz converted a lay up with 38 seconds left to lift Vermont past Lafayette, 46-45, in a non-conference game at Patrick Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon. Vermont's win snaps Lafayette's five-game winning streak as the Leopards fall to 6-4 and UVM improves to 6-2.
The Catamounts trailed the entire contest until Rosenkrantz's basket in the closing seconds. The lay up capped a 7-0 run by Vermont to close out the game as UVM held Lafayette with out a field goal and forced five turnovers in the final 4:03 of the contest. The Cats happy to escape with a "W."
They did a lot of things very, very well," said Vermont coach Sharon Dawley. "We just managed to get a lead at the most important time of the day. I believe our first lead was with 37 or 7 seconds left on the clock, buy you know, we'll take it."
"A victory is always great," added Courtnay Pilypaitis. "I mean, you don't complain about them. But we definitely didn't play to our potential, but we definitely got the win and we're happy about it."
Amy Rosenkrantz, who made the game winning shot - "Courtnay being the great passer she is found me, I mean on a play like that there's not even an option to miss, so you just don't."
