BURLINGTON, VT --- Coach Kevin Sneddon says it will be until Friday before he decides whether Joe Fallon or Mike Spillane will be the starting goalie when the UVM hockey team faces former ECAC rival St. Lawrence Saturday night at Gutterson.
"We really, like we do with all our guys, feel that this week in practice is going to mean something. But I will say this, Mike was phenomenal, he played an outstanding game.", said Sneddon.
Sneddon's decision was made a lot tougher when Spillane, who replaced Fallon in net against Providence a week ago Saturday, came through with a strong performance in this past weekend's 2-2 tie with Harvard. The sophomore made 35 saves, including 20 in the second period to earn Hockey East defensive player of the week honors. It puts the coach in a tough situation.
"For Joe's perspective, this is our last game for quite some time, so we've got to think about that.", said Sneddon. "It will be almost a month by the time he could potentially play again. And for Mike, for his development, he played fantastic and to not play him Saturday, is that what's best for him. So a lot of fun things to think about going into this weekend."
