Vt. Business Gives Away Profits

South Burlington, Vermont - January 4, 2008

Despite the bills and pressures of starting a new business, a four month old store in South Burlington is actually giving away some of its profits.

Candles and Creations was started by Heather Paine and Casey Webster Stabile. Paine pours her own candles and Webster Stabile makes jewelry. They give fifteen percent of their profits to charitable causes including the American Cancer Society's Hope Lodge, and suicide awareness and prevention programs.

Of the products she calls "cause candles," Heather Paine says, "I want everyone to know what they are, where they can get them, and what purpose they serve."

The origins of the business are in grief. Learn how Paine and Webster Stabile channeled their personal losses into this new venture tonight at 6:00. Jack Thurston will have their story in our weekly business feature, "Made in Vermont."
