Douglas Endorses McCain

Montpelier, Vermont -- January 6, 2008

Vermont Governor Jim Douglas travels to New Hampshire tomorrow to issue an endorsement in the presidential primaries.

Vermont's Republican governor says he's backing Senator John McCain, who has risen to the top of the polls in New Hampshire's Republican primary race on Tuesday. Douglas says McCain comes closest to the values that Vermont embraces.

Douglas told Channel 3, "In the end, I think that Americans are going to look at the experience he brings to the table, the fact that he has such broad bipartisan support, that he's provided leadership on fiscal responsibility and pork barrel spending. He's embraced the clean air act and cutting auto emissions, issues very important to the people of Vermont."

Douglas says he plans to speak at a campaign rally tomorrow at Dartmouth College in Hanover.
