BURLINGTON, VT -- Possible UVM men's basketball transfer Pierre Curtis arrived in Burlington Wednesday to visit the town and the campus.
Curtis, a sophomore point guard from James Madison says Vermont is one of his final two choices if he decides to transfer from JMU.
Channel Three Sports caught up with Curtis early Wednesday evening after he had already met a few fans that had given Curtis a taste of what it would be like to be a part of Catamount Country.
"Everybody just wants to see a successful program here and I like that.", said a smiling Curtis. "When you walk around, people know you and I really like that about this town. You're not just another person, you're a basketball player and they actually know who you are."
Pierre said that the NCAA win over Syracuse put Vermont on his radar, but he has a closer connection as well. UVM assistant coach Gabe Rodriguez was Curtis' AAU coach when Pierre was growing up in Denver. Curtis calls Rodriguez a 'big brother'. The guard says he's narrowed his choice of schools down to Vermont, Wyoming or returning to James Madison.
"I had a lot of interest from other schools, but I don't like to travel a lot so I didn't really want to visit a lot of schools.", said Curtis. "I had interest from Big 10 schools, ACC schools, but I just really wanted to cut it down to where I'd be comfortable at."
Curtis said will be in Burlington until Friday and he hopes to make his decision either Sunday night or Monday.
