HUNTINGTON, VT -- Lisa and Roy Haynes are regular guests on the Channel 3 morning news. They run Save our Strays, a non-profit that rescues animals.
But there's something about Lisa that you may not know.
She was a professional wrestler. It all started when her husband Roy had an extra ticket to a match and from then on she was hooked.
"After two or three matches I was like, I gotta do this!", said Lisa. "I was right up at the ring and I was yelling and the wrestlers and screaming at the referee and I got back and Roy had nobody in his chair the whole time."
"Security had to restrain her.", laughed Roy. "She was up at the ring yelling, pushing little kids out of the way."
When Lisa decided to become a wrestler she was working as an insurance adjuster. And Lisa "the adjuster" was born.
"They didn't know that in my briefcase was my wrestling tights."
Despite her love of wrestling Lisa gave it up about five years ago to devote her time to the animals.
"We do this as volunteer work. It's a labor of love."
As a matter of fact Lisa rescued her first stray on the way to a match.
And although she misses the energy and excitement of the crowd her wrestling training does not go to waste.
"Well my wrestling training has come in handy working with the animals. I'm able to grab them and put them in holds if they get wild on me. And I can put them in a head lock and they can't get away."
Not from her head lock or her love.
