Former UVM basketball star Taylor Coppenrath is returning for a second season in Spain.
Coppenrath has signed a one year contract with Alicante Costa Blanca of the Spanish "B" League. The former Cat standout joined Alicante a season ago, signing a one year deal worth over a hundred thousand dollars.
He had a solid season, averaging 8.7 points and 4.3 rebounds over the course of the 27 game regular season while playing about 19 minutes a game. His team advanced to the league semifinals.
"We got a new coach near the end of the season last year and that really played to my advantages.", said Coppenrath via a phone interview from Las Vages, where he was for a UVM basketbal reunion. "I was able to step outside a little more, shoot some 3's and he kinda just knew I was a smart player. I mean just help the team and so that worked out well for me. Plus I know the area so I'm more comfortable going back to play there. "
Coppenrath, a West Barnett native and a high school star out of St. Johnsbury Academy helped lead his home state UVM Catamounts to 3 NCAA Tournament appearances.
