BEIJING, CHINA -- Essex Junction native Carissa Gump finished 14th in her weight class in the Olympic weightlifting competition today in Beijing.
Competing in the 63 kilogram division, Gump, whose maiden name was Carissa Gordon, lifted a total of 204 kilos, or nearly 450 pounds combined in the twin disciplines of the snatch and the clean and jerk.
This is the first Olympics for Gump, who now resides in Colorado Springs and will turn 25 on the day of the closing ceremonies.
