BURLINGTON, VT --- Washington Nationals first baseman Dimitri Young will play the final week of the season with the Vermont Lake Monsters on a rehab assignment.

He becomes the first current major leaguer to rehab with Vermont in it's 15-year history.

Young has been on the disabled list since July due to complications in controlling his diabetes.

The plan is to have Young get a few at bats as a designated hitter Monday and Tuesday night in Oneonta, then play first base for Vermont's final four games at Centennial Field starting Wednesday.

The 2007 National League Comeback Player of the Year and Washington's representative at the 2007 All-Star Game, Young was hittiing .280 with four home runs in 50 games for the Nationals this season before going on the disabled list.
