BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - Distilleries that switched to making hand sanitizer this year got some good news on New Year’s Eve, they won’t be taxed by the feds.

On Thursday, the federal government rescinded a $15,000 fee it charged the distilleries earlier this week. The Department of Health and Human Services said the fee was charged by mistake.

Several distilleries in our region began making sanitizers after supplies of the important product became scarce in March. HHS officials say these businesses should be applauded for their actions, not taxed.
