Burr & Burton boys, North Country girls win H.S. snowboarding state titles
Traditional top teams reign again at the state finals Wednesday at Jay Peak.
BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - The high school snowboarding state meet taking place Wednesday at Jay Peak. Competitions in three different disciplines, the giant slalom, rail jam, and slope style.
Haley Goff of host North Country led the way on the girls side, leading the Falcons to first place team finishes in all three events and a comfortable margin for the overall team title. It’s a third straight team crown for North Country. Goff claiming the slopestyle win and second place in rail jam on her way to the individual overall title. Addi McDermott of Burr and Burton flipped Goff’s results in the two subjective scoring events, winning rail and placing second in slope to finish second as an individual and help the Bulldogs to a team runner up spot. Ava Hamme of South Burlington was third
Over on the boys side, a dominant day for BBA as the Bulldogs claimed 5 of the top 6 spots in the GS, four of the top 5 positions in slopestyle, and each of the top 4 spots in rail. That more than enough to earn Burr and Burton a third state crown in four years and ninth since 2000. Griff McFayden led the way with three podium spots: he was third in GS, second in rail, and won the slope to earn overall individual honors. His teammates filled up the overall podium as well, with Connor Kelly claiming second and Tucker Barribault finishing third
