BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - Sweeps were the order of the day at the H.S. alpine state championships Wednesday at Smugglers’ Notch.
On the final day of two days of racing, the slalom races were held Monday at Cochran’s Ski Area, CVU won the boys and girls team state titles, while a pair of St. Johnsbury Hilltoppers, Maggie Anderson and Tommy Zschau, earn the individual wins in the girls and boys giant slalom.
In both races, Anderson and Zschau were in second place after the first run, and each of those first run leaders, CVU’s Olivia Zubarki and Rex Jewell of South Burlington, did not finish their second runs.
In the girls giant slalom, Anderson was joined on the podium by Cara Gagliardi of Mount Mansfield and Harwood’s Gretchen Kogut.
In the girls team event CVU, led by a fifth place finish from Dicey Manning, easily outdistanced Woodstock and Mount Mansfield for the state title.

Gilliam was one of three Redhawks (Peter Gilliam -5th, Ari Diamond -7th) in the top seven and CVU topped St. Johnsbury and MMU for the boys team crown.
