Longtime Vermont politician, public servant dies

RYEGATE, Vt. (WCAX) - A longtime Vermont politician and public servant has died.

The family of John Zampieri confirmed to WCAX News that he passed away Monday at the age of 80 from advanced heart failure.

John Zampieri was a member of the Vermont House from Ryegate from 1965 to 1985.

He was later appointed to serve in three governors’ administrations as the commissioner of the Vermont Department of Buildings and General Services.

Zampieri retired in 1997.

A state office building is named in his honor in downtown Burlington.

His family says details on a service are still being finalized.
