Vermonters participate in worldwide ‘Cranksgiving’ event
BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - A bike race to help others get food on the table this holiday season was held Saturday in Burlington.
The Old Spokes Home bike store in the old north end teamed up with Feeding Chittenden to celebrate something called ‘Cranksgiving’. Bike riders pedal around the area hitting different grocery stores to pick up thanksgiving supplies.
Cyclists then returned to Old Spokes Home to have their bag weighed and hand over the food.
“It’s pretty surpriseing to see what people have been carrying all day. One of our riders just came back with a backpack with 42 pounds of groceries in it. I think a couple of turkeys. I can’t believe people are carrying around that much weight. It’s really amazing what people are willing to do for their community,” said Charlie Dayton of the Old Spokes Home.
Altogether cyclists biked back and donated 716 pounds of food to Feeding Chittenden.
