In 1990, when Ben was 5-years old he was diagnosed with ALL Leukemeia. Shortly after, Make a Wish Vermont reached out the grant him his wish: A trip to Disneyland. "My whole family got to celebrate me instead of just worrying about me. And we really needed that and it was amazing. It was the happiest I'd ever been. It didn't stop there though. It taught me about joy. It taught me about family, and taught me about gratitude. That vacation was more than just a wish. Make-A-Wish has taught me the value of community. When a wish kid gets a wish that kids whole community flourishes. If you are the recipient of generosity and support that the best way that you can repay that is to share it with someone else, to pay it forward".
