U.S. authorities say four Quebec men have been sentenced for a cross-border ATM related fraud.
The U.S attorney's office says a federal judge in Rutland sentenced the ring leader, 22-year-old Mathieu Baaklini to two years in prison. Officials say between March and October 2016, Baaklini and three others traveled to Burlington and Essex to get cash advances on ATMS using counterfeit debit cards made with stolen information from mostly European and Canadian account holders. They were eventually arrested trying to cross the border.
Safwan Bensalma, 22, Brandon Lo, 25, and Nicolau Manfredi, 22, were also sentenced to time served.
