A closer look at president's nomination of Brett Kavanaugh

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) Brett Kavanaugh is President Trump's pick for the U.S. Supreme Court. The 53-year-old is a solidly conservative, politically connected judge, who was once a law clerk for retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy.

Trump called Kavanaugh "a brilliant jurist, with a clear and effective writing style, universally regarded as one of the finest and sharpest legal minds of our time."

But critics, like Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-New York, say the president has put the reproductive rights and freedoms and health care protections for millions of Americans on the judicial chopping block.

Vermont Law School professor Jared Carter joined our Galen Ettlin to take a closer look at this nomination and what it could mean to you. Watch the video for the full interview.
