MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) The American Civil Liberties Union of Vermont is appealing a lawsuit against the Burlington Police Department to the Vermont Supreme Court.
The organization wants access to body camera footage from an alleged use-of-force incident in June 2017. Reed Doyle says he was walking his dog in Burlington when he saw police officers threaten to pepper spray a group of children in Roosevelt Park. According to the ACLU, the man attempted to view the body camera footage and was eventually told he would have to pay for parts of the video to be redacted. He lost a lawsuit before the Washington Superior.
Burlington Police Chief Brandon del Pozo told WCAX News earlier this year the redactions are necessary to protect the identity of the minors.
