Authorities: Northern NY forest fire sparked by campers

ALTONA, N.Y. (WCAX) Authorities say they have found the source of a forest fire in Northern New York this summer; they think campers are to blame.

The fire in Altona burned from June 12-Aug. 9, scorching 547 acres of the Flat Rock State Forest. Multiple state and Canadian agencies helped contain the wildfire.

The New York Department of Environmental Conservation now says a campfire that wasn't properly extinguished started the whole mess. Forest rangers do not know yet who is responsible.
