BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) The battle over Burlington's City Hall Park redevelopment continues to take shape.
The advocacy group Keep the Park Green says it has enough signatures to ask the City Council to consider a ballot item on Town Meeting Day.
The group is concerned with plans to redevelop the park will bring in more pavement and fewer trees.
"We've been collecting signatures to try to cancel the current plan that voters never got to vote on to approve whether or not they wanted to spend $3 million of tax payer funds on this," said Monique Fordham, a spokesperson for Keep the Park Green.
The city says the group's claims are misleading, and that renovations will include nearly the same number of trees as now.
Mayor Miro Weinberger in a statement urged the City Council to move ahead. "Stay the course and continue to support a plan that will make our central public space far more green, welcoming and accessible for future generations," Weinberger said.
