BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) The UVM Medical Center is getting help to make sure babies have better care after they're born.
The UVM Children's Hospital wants to renovate its neonatal intensive care unit. Right now, the price tag is about $16 million.
Part of that will come from fundraising. That's where the New England Federal Credit Union comes in. Tuesday, it kicked off the effort with a $1 million donation.
Dalton Draper, 13, says he's here today because of the NICU.
"I'm rather lucky because, as many of you know, I started my life in the NICU, my first 29 days to be exact. When I was born it was a little bit of a surprise. I was born at 32 weeks, so a little early," Draper said.
It has been decades since the last upgrade.
One of the improvements will be increased privacy for families.
