PUTNEY, Vt. (WCAX) The Putney Co-op in southern Vermont is in the middle of a huge expansion project.
The 2,000-square-foot expansion will include a new kitchen and 30-seat dining area. Store owners say the new café area can also be used as a meeting space for community events. The co-op has 1,700 members and officials say the project is designed around what people asked for.
"We exist to meet our members' needs. Our members have spoken clearly that they would like to have a better space and more offerings of food to purchase to eat on site and also home meal replacement and grab and go salads and that is what we are responding to," said Robyn O'Brien of the Putney Co-op.
A majority of the funding for the $850,000 project came from the Cooperative Fund of New England.
The renovation is expected to be done by the middle of December.
