Officials say they have successfully salvaged a sunken boat Saturday afternoon, after it went down in Butterfly Bay near Valcour Island.
According to Clinton County Emergency Services, the cabin cruiser was anchored when the owner, Antoine Noel Choquette, and his girlfriend noticed smoke from the engine compartment.
Apparently, the engine would not shut off and the fire continued to grow.
Choquette, from Quebec, and his girlfriend are safe, but investigators say they lost all of their clothing, cell phones, wallets and identification documents on the boat.
Several different crews responded to the fire.
A containment boom was placed around the boat to soak up leaking fuel.
