City councilors in Burlington want the F-35 to be based somewhere else.
Public comment on the issue lasted for hours at a packed City Hall Monday night. People on both sides of the debate stepped up to share their opinions about whether the Queen City should support the Air Force's latest fighter jet set to land in Vermont in fall 2019.
On Town Meeting Day, voters approved a nonbinding ballot item saying they do not want the jets here.
The Guard and business leaders said the wording of the ballot question was confusing.
City councilors voted 9-3 to request the guard rebase the plane.
