Authorities identify man found dead in Burlington
Vermont State Police are investigating the death of a Burlington man found in his home Thursday. It comes after the man was hospitalized earlier in the week after fighting with a Burlington Police officer.
Authorities say it started Monday when Burlington Police responded to the University of Vermont Medical Center after staff called about a man causing trouble in the emergency department.
They say Douglas Kilburn, 54, assaulted Burlington Police Ofc. Corey Campbell in the parking lot. Kilburn was later treated for injuries and released on Tuesday. He was also cited for suspicion of disorderly conduct, assault on a law enforcement officer, and trespassing.
Thursday, police say he was found dead at his home in the Northgate Apartments off North Avenue.
Vermont State Police have taken over the case. An autopsy was completed Friday but toxicology results could take weeks to come back.
Authorities say there's nothing tying Kilburn's death to the confrontation with police. Ofc. Campbell, who has been on the Burlington force since 2016, has been placed on paid administrative leave and and will return to desk duty next week.
