Burlington beaches open for now; warning signs remain

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) All Burlington city beaches are open as of Thursday morning but city leaders are still urging caution.

It comes after the city says 3 million gallons of partially treated wastewater was released into Lake Champlain overnight Tuesday.

The city never close any beaches but recommended people stay away from four of them: Blanchard Beach, Blodgett Area Beach, the Coast Guard Boat Launch and Perkins Pier. It was The the fifth time this summer Burlington beaches were put on notice after wastewater problems.

Sample results came back Wednesday morning and bacteria levels are all well below EPA limits, according to the city.

Due to state requirements, caution signs will stay up at the beaches until early Friday morning.
