BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) The city of Burlington is moving ahead with plans to redesign City Hall Park.

The City Council gave approval for engineers and architects to finish the details of the plan. This contract will allow planners to create construction documents in hopes of getting a zoning permit this fall. The multimillion-dollar proposal includes replacing the old fountain with a pop-jet fountain, where water streams out of multiple points on the ground. The city says the plans include fixing drainage issues, realigning paths, and adding seating, and possibly vending.

"Right-sizing some of the elements, determining how big some of them need to be or how small, how will the fountain-- how many trees will be in the park, all of those details that we really had to wait until we got to the next phase of design to determine," said Meagan Tuttle with Burlington's Department of Planning and Zoning.

Mayor Miro Weinberger, D-Burlington, thinks this new design will make the park more accessible and safe. Planners hope to begin construction in the spring of 2019.
