BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) The city of Burlington has scaled back controversial plans to remove dozens of trees in City Hall Park.
The city arborist says there are 51 trees in the park and originally the construction plans called for about half of them to come down. Now, he says the city will remove up to 21 trees and then plant 18 new ones during the reconstruction process.
Keep the Park Green, a group fighting the initial plans, says the new plan is the best it can get under the circumstances.
Construction is set to start next year.
