Chronic wasting disease reported in Quebec captive deer herd
A case of chronic wasting disease in Quebec has Vermont wildlife officials reminding the public it is illegal to import deer and elk carcasses into the state.
The disease identified last week in a captive red deer herd within 100 miles of the border is the first positive case of CWD in Quebec.
The fatal disease affects the brain and nervous system in deer and elk. It has been located throughout the country as well as New York.
Officials are also reminding hunters it is illegal to use deer urine lures in Vermont.
