DANNEMORA, N.Y. (WCAX) Prison officials are investigating a series of fights that sent the Clinton Correctional Facility into lockdown Tuesday.
A statement from the New York Department of Corrections confirms the lockdown but does not specify what the inmate incidents were.
During the investigation, the department says inmates will remain in their cells as a precaution as the staff is assessing the situation for the potential of any further violence.
The prison was in the national spotlight in 2015 after two convicted murderers escaped, leading authorities on a nearly three-week manhunt. One of the escapees was killed by law enforcement and the other was recaptured.
