Clinton County confirms first case of coronavirus
Clinton County is confirming its first case of coronavirus.
A man is being kept isolated in the intensive care unit at the Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital.
The hospital says testing kits and supplies are limited but they are working with the state.
“We are dying to get more tests soon,” said Dr. Wouter Rietsema, an infectious disease specialist. “Those are not immediately available and we do not know what the ETA is on that. My understanding through social media and other ways is that this scenario is playing out in large parts of the country and in large parts of New York.”
We asked if they were concerned about hospital beds.
"It really depends on whether all of the measures that everybody is putting in place around social distancing, around closing down bars and restaurants and gatherings. If people do those things, and if they don't turn around and then have their own private social gatherings and people really actually pay attention to this then we will have enough beds in our facility to handle the influx," said Rietsema.
Currently, the hospital is also monitoring two other people.
The Health Department is working to identify who that person has been in contact with.
