Internet outgate fixed for Consolidated Communications customers
The internet is back for hundreds of Consolidated Communications customers who have been waiting for days.
We're told the outage issue was fixed Monday.
The internet and phone provider in past years has been plagued by complaints about poor customer service.
The outage comes as the state is set to make big investments in broadband access with federal stimulus money. While the outage is not connected to that effort, state regulators say federal oversight of internet providers can be a source of frustration at the state level.
"It's very unfortunate but it's a legal fact. And it's one that you can see that the struggles are manifesting, and it's very frustrating for Vermonters and for regulators to deal with this situation where we don't have the power to do anything about it," said Vt. Public Service Commissioner June Tierney.
The broadband package is paid for by the federal CARES Act and looks to bring internet to families, including some 1200 students that couldn't access online classes this spring.
