Thousands race through Montpelier in Corporate Cup

MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) Thousands of runners gathered in Montpelier Thursday for the Vermont Corporate Cup.

The 5k is in its 35th year. Proceeds benefit the Vermont Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports.

Traffic delays are expected as the race takes over downtown streets.

The race gets underway at 6 p.m. in front of the Statehouse. Portions of Main and Elm Street, Bailey Avenue and Memorial Drive will be among the areas experiencing traffic delays.

Police expected about 4,500 people to participate and asked drivers to avoid the area if possible.
