Crews rescue stranded skier in Jay

JAY, Vt. (WCAX) Crews rescued a skier who got lost in Jay Thursday.

Vermont State Police say Robert Staniforth, 69, of Newport, got separated from the group he was with Thursday afternoon while they were skiing in the backwoods near the Long Trail.

Multiple rescue teams and the ski patrol responded.

Police say phone service was spotty, but they were able to get GPS coordinates from Staniforth so rescuers could find him.

Crews reached Staniforth at about 6:30 p.m. They say he was checked by EMS workers and is in good health.
