Critics ask for communications on sale of Burlington Telecom

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) Critics want to see the city's communications about the sale of Burlington Telecom.

The City Council recently picked Schurz Communications to buy BT.

Now, a group of Burlington residents and BT customers are asking for all correspondence between the city and Citibank. The city owes Citibank millions of dollars. Citibank threatened to sue Burlington if councilors chose to sell to Keep BT Local, which had a far lower bid. Some residents want that correspondence made public before councilors vote to approve the sale Monday.

When WCAX News asked Mayor Miro Weinberger, D-Burlington, about the records request Friday, he said it was the first he was hearing about it. He also says the correspondence will not reveal a smoking gun.

You can hear more from the mayor about that this Sunday morning at 7:30 a.m. on "You Can Quote Me" on Channel 3.
