Deliveryman dies after fall in Barre

Police say a deliveryman died after falling down a staircase Wednesday afternoon in Barre.

It happened around 2:45 at Simply Subs restaurant on Main Street. Police say Louis Mason, 63, was making a delivery for the Capital Candy company when he apparently fell down a basement flight of stairs in the back of the restaurant.

Authorities say the Montpelier man was found unresponsive at the bottom of the stairs with unknown injuries. Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say his death appears to be an accident. An autopsy is pending.

Officials with the Vermont Occupational Safety and Health Administration, VOSHA, said Thursday they will also be conducting an investigation into the death.
